College is about more than just partying and burying your hopes and dreams inside books written by overpaid professors you've never heard of (and never will again). You need to get a job that pays well enough to feed you. You need some sort of extracurricular activity that will ensure your sanity for the next four years. And you definitely need a network of friends and colleagues that you can depend on. Between working and proving to the world (and yourself) that you are a capable and creative person, you will find your world turned upside down as you work it, strut it, or simply yell from a mountaintop proudly, finding your independence and unique future along the way.

Surroundings

Chinese New Year at the downtown mall. There's a tree around the corner, but it was much less exciting than a giant balloon dragon who's tail wrapped around the entire first floor.

Everything here is centered around the river. If you don't learn to love it, you'll never truly love Spokane. But what's not to love about a giant waterfall that some crazy guy ventured down while trapped inside a wine barrel? One of the parks here in Spokane. I really don't know why the community felt it was necessary to make a rainbow out of painted pipes, but it was a pleasant reminder of what spring feels like through a long and dreary winter.

Please don't think that the school you attend it the only place that matters. Everything from the surrounding city to the cities beyond that are important when it comes to picking your school.
I never imagined Spokane as a place I would call my home. And it is definitely separate from the atmosphere of the college I'm attending. The city is lively in some areas, rich with culture and architecture. Other areas are, for lack of a better word, avoidable. The job market currently is one of the hardest things I've ever tried to enter, and some of the people I've come across are monstrous in more ways than one. But there are plenty of events and people that make it worth living here; they are the soul of the city and makes Spokane someplace worth looking into.
